A Simple Medicines Guide To Schuessler's Biochemic Tissue Remedies or Cell Salts

The Biochemic remedies are one of many branches of alternative therapies. This system in its present form was discovered by Dr.W.H.Schuessler, a German physician. He found that the ashes of dead bodies contained 12 inorganic compounds , which he called tissue salts.

They are:

Though Samuel Hahnemann opined on the great importance of the inorganic tissue salts as remedies and was the pioneer in their therapeutic uses, yet, to Dr. Schuessler goes the distinction of putting this idea in the form of a new system of treatment known today as the Biochemic System of treatment.

Theory behind Dr.Schuessler's Biochemic System of treatment

Schuessler realised that the Biochemic Remedies or tissue salts were inert in their natural state and for them to work they had to be energised or potentised. He opined that these salts in the body were in a molecular form in the tissues and disease occurred when there was a deficiency of one or more of these salts leading to disturbance in the molecular motion of these cell salts.

Re establishing the molecular motion of the cell salts by giving minute quantities of the deficient cell salts improved health.

Dose of Biochemic Medicines or Salts

Biochemic medicines are given in minute doses as the cell salts themselves are in a minute quantity in the tissue. One might wonder how minute quantities can give relief in diseases.Some interesting facts are given below.

It can be thus seen that the cell salts are in very minute quantities in the cells. The quantity of the mineral salt in just one cell can well be imagined. It is infinitesimally small.

According to a calculation by C.Schmidt, a physiologist each blood corpuscle contains about 1 billionth part of a gram of Kali Mur.

Incidentally, this corresponds to the 12th decimal trituration of the salt.

Take Natrum Mur for example, which is common salt or the salt we eat. If this salt were to reach the blood it cannot be given in a concentrated solution . It will just go in the intestines and produce watery diarrhoea and will get cast out of the system. But if the salt was diluted in solution it would enter the blood and inter cellular fluids when taken in from the mouth and oesophagus where its molecules penetrate the epithelium.

Therefore every Biochemic remedy that is salt must be sufficiently diluted to avoid destroying the function of the healthy cells and to restore the disturbed function.

It is found that in a healthy body the salts are found in solution corresponding to the 3rd, 4th & 5th decimal dilution.

Thus all biochemic salts or tissue salts must be diluted to a level whereby its molecules may penetrate the epithelium of the mouth, oesophagus and reach the blood through the capillary walls.

It is relevant to note here that in some mineral waters the mineral salts are present in quantities to the 8th decimal dilutions. Most of the famous springs owe their good results to the fact the salts are present in highly diluted concentrations.

Salts insoluble in water must be diluted to at least the 6th decimal dilution while those soluble in water are effective at 3rd decimal dilutions for them to penetrate the epithelial cells.

When 1 grain of the salt is added to 9 grains sugar of milk and triturated for at least 2 hours, we get the 1st decimal dilution or potency. This is the 1X potency.

If 1 grain of this 1X salt is mixed with 9 grains of milk of sugar and triturated for at least 2 hours ,we get the 2nd decimal dilution or the 2X potency and so on.

If instead of taking 9 grains of sugar of milk, 99 grains of sugar of milk is taken and 1 grain of the salt is taken and the whole procedure is repeated as above, we get the centesimal potencies and the potency of the salts are numbered as 1,2, 3,6,12,30,200 etc.

Dosage

Dr.Schuessler recommended 2 to 5 grains of the salt per dose with 3 to 4 doses in a day. Some others recommend giving the same amount in water and giving teaspoon doses every 1 to 2 hours.

My personal experience is that the selected salt or a combination of salts, is most effective when 1 grain of a single salt or combination of the salts is dissolved in a glass of water and a teaspoonful of this solution is taken every 2 to 3 hours in chronic cases or every few minutes in acute cases like headache,vomiting,stomachache etc .

This way the salt molecules are in solution and can be easily absorbed by the epithelial cells and reach the blood faster.

It would be better to avoid strong smelling eatables like onions, pickles etc and to have a gap of about 30 minutes before and after anything is eaten.

Storage And Life of The Tissue Salts

The Tissue Salts should be stored in a cool place free of strong smells in a closed box. The medicine remains good for at least 10 years.

Potencies to use

All the 12 salts except FP (I will now on use the abbreviations given for the salts earlier) and Silicea, act best in the 3X potency. FP and S act best in the 12X potency.

CP3X be given to young people while CP12X be given to very old and very weak people.If these potencies do not act or act for a short time, higher potencies,6X,12X and 30X should be used. 200X potency can be used once a day, while potencies upto 30X are given 3 to 4 times a day.

1. Calcarea Fluorica (CF)

It is useful for Adenoids, swelling of glands, enlarged or varicose veins, malnutrition of bones, bones increased due to injury, dilation of heart, blood vessels and piles, cracks on skin or tongue, stony hardness of glands. It is good for easy childbirth.

2.Calcarea Phosphorica (CP)

It has wonderful properties of restoring health after disease. It's useful in anaemia and rickets, in gall stones, useful in dentition but it should not be given for long. Give it off and on.

3. Calcarea Sulphurica (CS)

When well selected remedies act for a short while, CS improves their action.This salt heals abscesses after silicea has been given.

4. Ferrum Phosphoricum (FP)

It is very useful in initial stages of inflammations and fevers,bleeding from fresh wounds, contusions, sprains etc. Useful in pains which are worse from motion and better from cold. FP 200X and KP 200X reduce pain of cancer.

5. Kali Muriaticum (KM)

It helps in blood poisoning, excellent for insanity and mental troubles, in brain fag, hysteria, loss of memory, nervousness, typhoid fevers, paralysis of any part of the body.

In Insanity, 200X potency should be followed by the 200 potency.

It also relieves the bad effects of Allopathic, Ayurvedic and Unani Medicines.

7. Kali Sulphuriaticum (KS)

If eruptions have been suppressed and disease has resulted, it brings out the eruptions. It produces perspiration.It improves the action of other remedies.

8. Magnesia Phosphorica (MP)

Excellent in pain which is relieved by warmth , worse on right side and in cold by pressure, in all kinds of pains except those of burning nature . It removes spasms and convulsions. Gives relief from hiccups, insomnia.

It acts best in hot water.

9. Natrum Muriaticum (NM)

It is indicated if secretions are either increased or decreased in the body, like too much or too little saliva or water from eyes. Excellent for heart failure, removes weakness and conditions of sudden collapse, sunstroke and heatstroke, brain fag.

10. Natrum Phosphoraticum (NP)

Useful in TB and jaundice.

11. Natrum Sulphuriaticum (NS)

Useful in mental troubles caused by injury to the head. It is the main salt in diabetes.Indicated in patients who are worse in damp weather and open air, worse from lying on left side, chronic effects of gonorrheal infections.

It should not be given if there is bleeding.

12. Silicea (S)

Indicated in patients worse at night or after sleep, in winter , cold or open air and during full moon or new moon. Better by heat and in warm room and in summer.

It ripens abscesses and boils. It removes foreign matter from throat or flesh like needles, fish bone etc.

1 If patient is worse at night add CP3X or 12X and S12X if not in the formula.

2. S12X acts wonderfully but its action lasts only for a few days. If the patient's condition does not improve by then, give 30X, then 200X once a day and then S 200 on alternate days.

3. If trouble is worse in winter add KM 3X, NM 3X and S12X if not there in the formula.

4. If trouble is worse in damp weather add NS 3X to the formula if not there.

5. If trouble is worse on change of weather add CP 3X or 12X to the formula.

6.If trouble is worse on motion, add FP 12X, KM 3X and NM 3X to the formula.

7. If there is improvement increase the interval between doses.

8. If the patient suffers from 2 or more diseases the medicines for the diseases can be taken alternately.

9. In emergency any other potency can be used.

10. If there is bleeding from any part of the body, NS should not be given.

11. CS should be given if correct medicines act for a short time only.

12. If other combinations of medicines has failed, mixture of all 12 salts does good sometimes.

13.High potency of medicine aggravates while low potency of the same medicine antidotes the effect of high potency.

14. If possible NM or combinations containing NM should be given at 8 AM, 12 Noon, 4 PM and 8PM. It acts best at this time. In emergencies it can be given anytime however.

Listed below are some very effective combinations of the tissue salts .

• Tendency to Abort

Mixture of CP3X, FP 12X and KP once or twice daily.

• Acidity or Hyper acidity

Mixture of CP 3X or 12X ,FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS3X and s12X.

• Acne

Pimples or pustules on face, back and chest. CP 3X alone or mixture of CP 3X, FP 3X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X failing which mixture of CF 3X, CS 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, and NS 3X.

• Allergy

If a person has abnormal sensitivity to anything like water, cold, weather etc give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12 X, FP 3X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS 3X and S 12X.

• Arthritis

For acute attack- give NS 3X alone 4 times daily for a week.If there is improvement continue it. If not, then give mixture of MP 6X, NM 6X, NP 6X, NS 6X, and S 30X. If it ceases to benefit after sometime give the 1st 4 salts in 12X potency and 200X of Silicea once a day. In Chronic cases give mixture of MP6X, NM 6X, NP 6X, NS 6X and S 30X.

• Asthma

First NS 3X alone for a few hours, if no improvement, give mixture of CF 3X,CP 3X or 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X,NS 3X and S 12X failing which mixture given for bleeding, failing which, mixture of CS 3X and FP 12 X.

• Bee Sting and Insect Bites

Give NM 3X . It can be applied externally too by crushing a tablet of NM 3X adding a drop or two of water and applying this paste on the stung area.

• Bleeding

To Stop-- Mixture of CF3X, FP12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X. If this fails give mixture of CP 3X, CS 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, and S 12X.

• Bronchitis

Mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, KS 3X, NS 3X,and S 12X. failing which CS 3X, failing which give mixture for cough.

• Burns

If blister has formed, give Mixture of FP 12X, KP 3X, KS 3X, NP 3X, CP 3X, CS 3X, KM 3X, and NM 3X and also apply it mixed with coconut oil. If it does not relieve in 6 to 8 hours esp if surface of burn is open give mixture of CS 6X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3x, NM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X. This is to be taken internally and applied externally too mixed with coconut oil. and lastly give CS 3X internally and externally if the above mixtures fail. In case of burn immediately make a solution of the mixture in water and dip the finger in it. It stops the blister from forming and stops the burning pain.

• Bone Fracture - To join the broken bone

Mixture of CF 3X,and CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, and S 12X both internally and externally. Also give 1 pill of homeopathic Symphytum 6 in morning and Ruta 6 in evening.

• Chilblain

Inflammation ,redness,swelling and itching of fingers of hands or feet ,ears caused by extreme cold weather. Give NS 3X alone failing which mixture of CP 3X or 12X,FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X, NS 3X, S 12X. both internally and externally applied with Vaseline failing which mixture of CS 3X, KS 3X and NP 3X.

• Obstinacy in Children

S 200 1 pill every week . 5 or 6 such doses. If the child cries give MP 3X at short intervals in hot water.

• Chilly Feeling

Sensation of felling chilly give KS 3X.

• Cholera

Give at very short intervals mixture of CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, and NS 3X. If not fully well give Mixture of CF 3X, CS 3X, and S 12X.

• Cold and Coryza

If dry give KM 3X 4 times a day or KM 3x and NP 3X 4 times a day. If chill has been caught then give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X, CS 3x, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X,NM 3X, NP 3X and NS 3X. failing which CP 3X or 12X, CS 3X, FP 12X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS 3X, and S 12X.

• Collapse-- ( Sinking of pulse, hands and feet cold,exhaustion and much sweat)

Mixture of CP 3X or 12 X, KP 3X and NM 3X. This has prevented heart failure in many cases.

• Constipation

KM 3X alone if not better then give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, Kp 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, Ns 3X, and S 12X failing which add CS 3x to this.

• Cough

Mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12 X, FP 12X, KM 3x, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X,NP 3X, NS 3X, and S 12X every 2-3 hours. If this fails give CS 3x and if this too doesn't work give Bronchitis powder.

If phlegm makes rattling noise on breathing give mixture of NM 3X and S 12X.

• Cramps

MP 3X in hot water or mixture of CP 3X or 12X , KP 3X, and MP 3X in hot water.

• Diarrhoea

Same medicines as for Cholera. If it fails give Dysentery mixture.

• Dysentery

Mixture of CP 3X or 12x, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X,MP 3X, NM 3X, and NS 12X. If not cured in 24 hrs give CS 3X. If this fails give mixture of CF 3X, KS 3X, NP 3X,and S 12X.

If no blood is passed with stools do not add NS in the above mixture.

• Dyspepsia

Chronic Indigestion Give mixture of CS 3X, KP 3X, and NM 3X failing which give mixture of CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, MP 3X,NP 3X and S 12X.

• Easy Childbirth

Give CF 3X at short intervals. or give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X, FP 12X,KM 3X, KP 3X, MP 3X, ans NM 3X in hot water.

• To increase mother's milk

Give CP 3X.

• To decrease mother's milk

Give mixture of CF 3X, NM 3X and NS 3X.

• Exhaustion

Mixture of CP 3X, KP 3X, and NM 3X.

• Fainting

Mixture of CP 3X or 12X.FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X and S 12X.

• Fevers

Mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, NS 3X every hour for 3 to 4 hours failing which add to it KP 3X, KS 3X,CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, MP 3X, NP 3X, and S 12X every 2 hours for 24 hours. If this fails give mixture of CS 3X and NM 3X.

• Gums bleeding

KP 3X alone or mixture of CS 3X, KP 3X and NM 3X.

• Gums swollen

Mixture of CP 3X or 12X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X and NS 3X. failing which mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X.

• Headache

Mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12 X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS 3X and S 12X. failing which mixture of CF 3X, CS 3X and KS 3X.

• For Chronic Headache

Give mix of CP 200, CS 200, and NM 200 in the evening once a week for 2 to 3 weeks.

• For one sided Headache

Mixture of NM 3X and S 12X.

• Heatstroke

Mixture of KP 3X and NM 3X.

• Kidney Stone

Mixture of NP 3X, NS 3X,and S 12X.

• Lips Crack

Mixture of CF 3X, MP 3X and NM 3x.

• Numbness

Mixture of KP 3X and CP 3X or 12X.

• Pain - in any part of body

Give FP 200X, KP 200X and MP 3x. in hot water failing which CP 3X or 12 X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, Np 3X, NS 3X and S 12X.

• Insomnia

KP 3X alone or Mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X and S 12X every 15 minutes at night or mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, CS 3X, NP 3X, and NS 3X.

Also 1 tablet of MP 3X dissolved in about 50 ml of hot water brings on sleep.

• Sprains & Strains

Mixture of FP 12X and KM 3X if no relief the Mixture of CF 3X, CS 3X, FP 12X, KM 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X. Also apply this mixture mixed in Vaseline or oil locally.

• Toothache

Mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NS 3X and S 12X or mixture of CS 3X and NP 3X.

• Vertigo

Mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X,NP 3X and NS 3X.

• Vomiting

Mixture of NP 3X and NS 3X or Cholera mixture given earlier.

Points To Be Noted

1. If the 1st formula of the mixture doesn't work or works for a short while, try the next formula and so on.

2. For all purposes 1 Tablet of each salt is to be taken either alone or for making the mixture.This must be mixed in half a glass of water if the salt is given alone or a full glass of water if the mixture is used.

A sip of water can be taken if a teaspoon is not at hand at intervals of a few minutes in acute cases and emergencies otherwise in routine cases the dose, a sip/ a teaspoon ,can be taken every 2 hours. When this water is consumed make fresh medicated water.

Before taking a dose from the medicated water stir the water as the salt or mixture settles down and consume the water. Stir every time before taking the dose.

Preferably use tepid water or tap water, not cold water. In formulae containing MP mix the powder in hot water.

3. Many of these mixtures have been used on several occasions and have yielded very good results .

4. I will be adding formulae for more diseases shortly so do revisit the hub.

5. The update will also have homeopathic remedies .

• Abscess - Painful & inflamed swelling

When just started, give Bell 6 three times a day for a day or two - 1 pill every 6 hours.
If this doesn't benefit, give Hepar Sulph 6, if pus has not formed, the abscess will subside; if the pus has formed it will open it soon. Give for 1 to 2 days if it benefits - 1 pill every 6 hours.

If pus has not formed, give a mixture of give mixture of CF 3X, FP 12X, KM 3x, KP 3x and KS 3x.
If pus has formed, Silicea 200 - 1 pill, will open it up in a short time.

When the pus is no longer discharged, give CS 3X to heal the wound.

If there is a bunch of boils, Arnica 200 - 1 pill 2 times a week or Arnica 30 - 1 pill, 4 times a day, will benefit.

Also, if abscess is developing, homeopathic, Hepar Sulph 30 is useful - 1 pill 2 times a day. If abscess has formed, give Hepar Sulph 200. It will break it open in a short time.

• Adenoids - Growth in the nose.

Give Silicea 6X 3 times a day for 1 week.
If no relief, give a mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X, KM 3X, KS 3X and Sil 6X for few days; then replace Sil 6X with Sil 12X.

• Agoraphobia - Fear of crowd.

Give KP 3X daily.

• Blisters in the mouth & on the tongue.

Give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS 3X and S 12X.
If this doesn't work in a a couple of days give CS 3X.

• Backache

Give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, CS 3X, FP 12X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X, NS 3X and S 12X.

If this does not help, give KM 3X.

Rhus Tox 30 - 1 pill twice daily is useful also.

• Baldness in young people

Give KP 3X alone for some time.
If it does not help, give a mixture of CP 3x, CS 3X, FP 12X, KP 3X, KS 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X - both internally and externally mixed with water, oil or vaseline.

A paste made of Amla powder with water and applied on the head for 15 days will stop hair fall and help in hair growth.

• Bedsores

Give KP 3X, internally and externally apply it on the sores.
If this doesn't relieve give a mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, KP 3X, NM 3X and NS 3X or a Mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X, CS 3X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KS 3X, NM 3X, KP 3X, NP 6X, NS 6X, and 12X, 2 or 3 times daily.

• To increase haemoglobin

Give NM 3X daily.

• Blisters anywhere on the body

If full of clear liquid - give NM 3X
If full of yellowish liquid - give NS 3X
For other types of blisters - give FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and NS 3X.

• Bites of animals

Give mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, NM 3X and S 12X internally and apply it externally also.

• Child slow to learn to walk or speak

Give mixture of CP 3X and NM 3X.

• Child - Mental & physical growth stunted

Baryta Carb 200 once every 2 weeks.

• Child obstinate

Silicea 200 1 pill every week for 5 to 6 weeks.

• Colic pain

MP 3X in very hot water every 5 to 10 minutes.

If no relief give a mixture of CP 3X or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X, KS 3X, MP 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and NS 3X.

Homeopathic Colocynth 6 1 pill at short intervals helps.

• Coma, unconciousness

Give mixture of CP 3X or 12X, CS 3X, KP 3X, and NM3X at short intervals. If this doesn't benefit, give S 12X.

• Corn - hard growth on thefingers or toes

Give a mixture of CF 3X, KM 3X, NM 3X and S 12X. Also apply externally on the corn.

• Cough - Excessive expectoration or rattling in chest

Give mixture of KM 3X, KS 3X, NM 3X and s 12X.

• Cough - If phlegm arises upto the throat repeatedly

Give mixture of CP 3X and NS 3X.

• Dandruff

Give mixture of KM 3X, KS 3X and Nm 3X.

• Deafness

-Give KM 3X alone 5 to 6 times daily for 1 week.

-If of no help add CP 3X, KP 3X, and MP 3X to this.

-Mixture of FP 12X, KM 3X, KP 3X,KS 3X, NM 3X and s 12X.

-Mixture of CF 3X, CP 3X or 12X,CS 3X, MP 3X NP 3X and NS 3X.

-These mixtures can be given one after the other, if the earlier mixture doesn't benefit.

• Deafness in old people

Baryta Phos 30 - 1 pill twice a day; after a week, if necessary give 1 pill of Baryta Phos 200 once a week for 3 to 4 weeks.

• Dysmenorrhoea - painful menses

-Give MP 3X alone first, 1 tab in hot water every hour. If doesn't help then,

-Give CP 3X or 12x, KP 3X, MP 3X and NM 3X. and if this too doesn't help, give FP 12X and KM 3X.

• Discharge from the Ear

Give mixture of CP 3X or 12X, Cs 3X, FP 12X, KP 3x, KS 3X, NM 3X and S 12X failing which give give mixture of CF 3X, KM 3X, MP 3X, NP 3X and NS 3X.

• Earache

-Give mixture of CF 3X, CP 3x or 12X, FP 12X, KM 3X, Kp 3X, KS 3x, MP 3X and NS 3X or,

-Give mixture of CS 3X, NM 3X, NP 3X and S 12X.

-Pulsatilla 6 is very useful in many cases - 1 pill 2 times a day.

• Ear noises
