Pessimism is what ignites the fire within us to fight, which is necessary for human evolution. Even when things are fine, the evolutionary fire needs to burn.

This is because we feel the fear inside. This would be resolved if we have good trust in our God. Things in life are precious because God made all these. The purpose of life is to live with God's reason of creating us human beings.

This is a very good question!! As I am preparing to fly-off to India, I just had countless people start telling me about all sort of diseases, people getting kidnapped for various organ-selling business, etc.
I just had to laugh ... not that none of those things exist but I think with that kind of thinking I would never leave the house. What if the bus crashes, the airplane drops in the ocean or the sky falls on me lol ...

I think fear has been sold to people for an endless array of years and now we have a majority of people around the world always worried about one thing or another.
I'll take a shot at Christianity and its damnation of people as an example. They even go after new-borns: children are born in sin, in some of their minds ...

Politics is about fear too. And many politicians play the fear card so they can get elected.

Just a quick opinion. There is much to say on this topic.

Good question. Maybe it is human nature. Maybe it is because unpleasant things happen in life, and perhaps we are never really secure. Maybe it is how we are raised. Maybe something unfortunate happens in our lives like the loss of a loved one, and it is difficult to be truly happy again.

Maybe certain things break our hearts, and we subconsciously feel them.

    God Bless You.

Pessimistic and/or unsatisfied? Argumentative and unreasonable people get things done by not being satisfied with the status quo and doing something about. Making the world a better place, (hopefully).

One reason maybe that we are surrounded by people who are pessimistic and having a huge amount of negativity.

We should be always having positive thoughts and therefore get away from those who are negative so we will not be influence by them.

I believe that it is triggered by so much negativism and terrible events that we see on a daily basis. It does have an effect on our thinking and even though we may prefer not to dwell on these kind of things in our lives. The media also has a part in exposing us to many events that are deemed news worthy and these are usually robberies, auto accidents, and who is now brought up on charges that is a public servant. We must find alternative ways and focus on positive events and goals in our daily lives.

I think that gravity doesn't only pull us down physically, emotionally too. Then , the world we are living in offers too many reasons to get upset. A lot of people really don't live the life they want or need to be happy. SO, even if the routine is ok, we may long for that state, that life, those people, those things, we do not have.
But we definitely can not wait for all those to be happy, start by being happy and see how great things are.
PS I say that but today I just had the strong feeling of happiness after days of complaint and being sick with all my kids. I looked around, my all family was together, the kids were playing, my husband was holding the baby and I was sitting with them...and I realized how happy I am when I don't dwell in Negative Land!
I also realize that I had a friend that used to really drag me down. I miss the good times but not having that negative interactions we built up our relationship on is a blessing. Yes, her negative energy used to turn into attacks if I was not complying in negative or complaining.

Edhan I agree so much, frankly, some people just suck the life out of you!

That's a good question. For some reason we all seem to get negative thoughts in our heads from time to time. Perhaps if everything is fine in our lives we do not expect it to last so we become pessimistic.

It is a constant battle, I find, to keep only positive thoughts in my mind. But a battle definitely worth fighting as I feel so much better when I'm feeling optimistic about my life.

Life is not one smooth path. There are hills and valleys, overpasses and underground trails.  Our emotions are not stable either.  We're happy, we're sad; we're excited, we're bored.  At some point on the uneven road, changing emotions will discover something that is not really "fine" with our lives.

We never satisfied, thanks to the ego!!! I think if we start living in the present moment and enjoy the basic things in life...we will live happily ever after. We create problems and became sad sometimes just because we don't believe in happiness.

Sorry, Rajan. I don't get pessimistic. I get discouraged sometimes, but my faith gives me optimism in my darkest moments. I was down the first day I met you and you lifted my spirits. The Lord will provide.

I think it is a sign of the times. For the past few years since the economic meltdown things have been very bad for everyone on a financial front. We've been in the mindset so long that when one small bad thing happens it is the end of the world. Even when nothing bad is happening we are complaining about what has already been. Things may change but it'll be over the long term.

I think even although our own lives are fine, this may not be the case with others in our family or in our community. So things that are sad, depressing or negative outside our immediate circle will often have an impact on how we feel in general. I would say that, even although your life is ok, that fact that you feel pessimistic, means that you are not entirely cutting yourself off from the concerns of others.

I think that it's because the human spirit is never satisfied. It always strives towards perfection and never quite reaches the mark.
Also,it's the disatisfied that stirs the pot and pushes things ahead.
We thought the sixties kids should be satisfied with all they had,but their complaints have produced lots of good for us all.

Like Forest Gump said "Life is like a box of Chocolates you never know what you gonna get."

I guess this sort of philosophy is what many other people may feel about life, because no one knows whats at the end of the rainbow I guess.  A pessimistic attitude doesn't help much in life so I try to be the opposite, a heavenly optimist floating on the clouds all the time.  You can call me Optimus Prime if you like. LOL

"Negativity", is the Truest answer I can come up with though, my bad on trying to be silly, there in that paragraph up above.

You gotta forgive me, I been answering way to many questions lately I guess, I think my fingers need a break now...... hahaha

Without pessimism, we won't become optimistic. Even the most optimistic person gets pessimistic at times. He just won't admit it because once pessimism arrives in his thoughts, he can quickly replace it with optimism. So, he thought, he's always optimistic at all times wherein he's not. Pessimism has to be there first before activating optimism. Such person had already mastered optimism and is a possessor of great faith.
If we don't get pessimistic, we will all become passive with our lives, we will all just leave things as is. No problem, no solution.
You become optimistic because you want to eliminate pessimism.
Pessimism is the disease, Optimism is the cure. Without the disease, there's no cure.

Maybe it's just in our nature to lean that way. It seems in our nature to judge one another.
